WALTON WILLIAM (1902-1983) - WALTON WILLIAM (1902-1983) English Composer. Sir William Walton wrote music in multiple different genres and styles during his sixty-year career. A very fine A.M.Q.S., ` William Walton´, one page, oblong small 8vo card, n.p., 18 th February 1979, to Ann Goddard. Walton has carefully penned in bold blue ink a lengthy bar of music, which he entitles ` Polka from Façade´. VG Façade is a series of poems by Edith Sitwell, best known as part of Façade – An Entertainment in which the poems are recited over an instrumental accompaniment by William Walton. Walton revised the music continually between its first performance in 1923 and the first publication of the full score in 1951. That definitive version of the Sitwell-Walton Façade includes the Polka that Walton refers to in this musical quote.
