PAXTON JOSEPH: (1803-1865) - PAXTON JOSEPH: (1803-1865) English gardener and architect, best known for designing the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London, for the Great Exhibition of 1851. A.L.S., Joseph Paxton , three pages, 8vo, Chatsworth, 20th August 1850, to [George Howard] ( ´My Lord´ ). Paxton informs his correspondent that he will send the Park Keeper ´with a fat buck to Castle Howard on Saturday´ and continues to confirm the train times, further writing ´On Monday morning I will also send a messenger with some fruit, for fear of any delay at the stations. I am sorry we have nothing very fine to offer. There will be two good pine apples, some fine black grapes and two dozen of peaches which will I hope be acceptable´ . British statesman, orator and writer whose mother was Lady Georgiana Cavendish, eldest daughter of the Duke of Devonshire (whose country residence was Chatsworth House).
