NIGHTINGALE FLORENCE: (1820-1910) - NIGHTINGALE FLORENCE: (1820-1910) English pioneer of modern nursing. Final part of an A.L.S., Florence Nightingale , two pages, 8vo, n.p., n.d., to a gentleman. Nightingale writes in ink and states, in part, ' My cousin Mr. Shore Smith says that he ''cannot believe a new lead soil pipe is necessary as it was all put in new & very strong in /78''. He also says ''the old drain is quite a new pipe drain laid in cement & concrete in the best possible manner'' in 1878' , asking her correspondent to communicate with her as he promised to and let her know the progress of the work, his proposal and ' in what state the lead soil pipe turns out to be '. Matted in gold and crimson alongside a reproduction image of Nightingale and framed and glazed (to display both sides) in a gold coloured wooden frame to an overall size of 16 x 13. VG
