SEWARD ANNA: (1742-1809) - SEWARD ANNA: (1742-1809) English Romantic poet, known as the Swan of Lichfield. Concluding fragment of an A.L.S., A Seward , two pages, slim oblong 12mo (approximately 18.5 x 6 cm), n.p., n.d., to Mr. Sneyd. The remaining text states, in part, ´I have a blamable impetuosity in my temper which often hurries me into speaking my sentiments too freely, even when they are oppos´d by those for whose judgements I have the highest veneration. The intimacy & connection which has always subsisted between you & my Father & Mother has made me look upon your children as my sisters, I love them all but for Honora & for my poor Nancy I had the warmest affection, in the first I promise myself much future happiness.......dictated by a confus´d brain & an aching heart, I doubt you will find unintelligible, but let this be very clear to you that I am my dear Mr. Sneyd your affectionately sympathizing friend.....´ A few small, light, minor stains, only very slightly affecting a few words of text and not the signature, G Honora Sneyd (1751-1780) English writer, closely associated with Anna Seward. Following the death of her mother in 1756, Honora was raised by Canon Thomas Seward and his wife Elizabeth until she returned to her father's house in 1771. During this time Honora and Anna formed a close friendship, as reflected in the present text, and Honora is mentioned in several poems by Seward, including The Anniversary (1769).
