English author, poet and mathematician whose works include Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865). A.L.S., C. L. Dodgson , two pages, 8vo, Christ Church, Oxford, 8th June 1886, to Miss. Wordsworth. Dodgson commences his letter by stating ' If any of your young friends were interested in the subject of ''Logic'' and feel any difficulties they can formulate as questions, & if you will get them to write them down & will send me the batch (say by Wed. or Th. evening) I will be glad to try and solve them ', and further remarks ' It is, I think, too much to expect of them, to put their difficulties viva voce during a lecture ', before concluding ' I shall have to give at least 3 more lessons, to enable them to work the system enough for their own amusement: the attendances I anticipate are:- at No. 2 - 16, No. 3 - 10, No. 4 - 6! '. Matted in red and pale brown alongside a reproduction image of Dodgson and framed and glazed (to display both sides of the letter) in a gold coloured wooden frame to an overall size of 15.5 x 11.5. VG Dame Elizabeth Wordsworth (1840-1932) English writer & lecturer, great-niece of the poet William Wordsworth. She was the founding Principal of Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, as a college for female undergraduates 1879-1909.
