DOYLE ARTHUR CONAN: (1859-1930) - DOYLE ARTHUR CONAN: (1859-1930) Scottish author, creator of Sherlock Holmes. A.L.S., Arthur Conan Doyle , to the recto of his personal printed correspondence card, Bignell Wood, Minstead, Lyndhurst, Hampshire, 30th January n.y. (1930), to ´My dear General´ (Enesy). Doyle writes, in full, ´I hasten to tell you that events have taken a turn which will prevent my coming to you for a public lecture this year. I thought I would let you know at once. It is quite possible that I might make a private visit to Buda [pest] - But that depends on circumstances´ . One very small, minor area of paper loss to the lower left corner, VG Doyle and General Enesy are known to have maintained a short correspondence in the mid-to-late 1920s, both having a firm belief in spiritualism. It is likely that the present letter was written in the final year of Doyle's life. He had been diagnosed with angina in the autumn of 1929, following a Psychic lecture tour to Holland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
