Massenet writes a social letter to his friend, thanking them for their letter, remarking ´Il y a dèja longtemps que Paris est loin - & nous y serons bientôt de retour´ (Translation: ´It has been a long time since we left Paris, but we will be back soon´ ), enquiring as to the health of Juliette and the children and stating that they are all in his thoughts, further referring to the weather ´Depuis 2 jours le temps est aux tempêtes mais jusqu´ici: le soleil assez souvent & surtout la bonne chaleur - presque toujours 14 degrés même avec le ciel gris´ (Translation: ´For the past two days the weather has been stormy, but so far there has been quite a lot of sunshine and, above all, pleasant warmth – almost always 14 degrees, even with grey skies´ ), adding that he has received some news regarding Paris and the theatres from their good and kind mutual friend Heusel, and also remarking ´Nous sommes dans le calme - j´ai travaillé un peu - & nous profitons de cette absence le mieux possible´ (Translation: ´We are calm – I have worked a little – and we are making the most of his absence´ ).
