A good A.L.S., ` Maurice Ravel ´ , to the recto and verso of his personal monogrammed correspondence card, Montfort-l'Amaury, 10th November 1926, to Pierrette, in French. The card bears to the upper left corner his black embossed initials ”MR”. Ravel states in part ' Chère Pierrette, les lettres ne se croisent guère avec plus de précision. La facture qui m´apporte la vôtre prit la mienne du même coup. (J´espère qu´on aura fait suivre) Lorsque vous lirez ceci, Roger-la-Ponte vous aura fait part de ma réponse.´ (Translation: ” Dear Pierrette, the letters don't cross much more precisely. The bill that brought me yours took mine at the same time. (I hope it will have been forwarded) By the time you read this, Roger-la-Ponte will have informed you of my reply.”) Further, Ravel refers to a concert and to one of his works, saying ` Il est possible que je prolonge mon séjour à Lyon: cela dépendra du temps que je resterai à Genève. Le concert y a lieu le 26, mais j´ai mon cousin, des amis à y voir et dois aussi passer au théâtre à propos de la 1ere de L´Heure Espagnole. Ecrivez-moi à Berne...´ (Translation: ” I may extend my stay in Lyon: it will depend on how long I stay in Geneva. The concert is on the 26th, but I have to see my cousin and friends there, and I also have to go to the theater for the premiere of L'Heure Espagnole. Write to me to Bern...”) Light single crease across the card, otherwise G to VG L'Heure Espagnole is a French one-act opera, often described as a comédie musicale , with music by Maurice Ravel. The opera, set in Spain in the 18th century, is about a clockmaker whose unfaithful wife attempts to make love to several different men while he is away, leading to them hiding in, and eventually getting stuck in, her husband's clocks.
