Rimsky-Korsakov thanks his correspondent for their letter and detailed explanations, which had clarified many matters, and continues ´La nouvelle que vous êtiez en train de publier un nouveau travail sur Mousorgsky m´a vivement interessé, d´autant plus que la révision de ”Boris” [Godunov] y sera traitée plus objectivement selon votre expression. J´espère que vous voudrez bien m´avertir sitôt le livre sera publié afin que je ne me mette pas en retard pour me le procurer. Je suis bien aide d´apprendre que vous possédez deja ”Mousorgsky lettres et documents”´ (Translation: ´ I was very interested to hear that you are publishing a new work on Mussorgsky, especially since, according to you, the revision of Boris [Godunov] will be treated more objectively. I hope you will let me know as soon as the book is published so that I don't miss out on getting a copy. I am very glad to hear that you already have ‘Mussorgsky: Letters and Documents’ ´ ). Rimsky-Korsakov also states that it is a pity his correspondent has not received a book, and also writes of other publications, ´Quant aux revues musicoles il n´en subsiste presque rien aujourd´hui. Il n´y a pas quinze jours qu´on m´a fait part à Moscou de la publication projetée d´une nouvelle revue......Je m´engage à vous tenir au courant, si quelque périodique musical venait à paraitre chez nous´ (Translation: ´As for music journals, there are almost none left today. Less than two weeks ago, I was informed in Moscow of the planned publication of a new journal....... I will keep you informed if any musical periodicals appear here´ ). At the foot of the letter Rimsky-Korsakov adds a postsctript of three lines in Cyrillic, signed with his initials ARK . With blank integral leaf. VG Boris Godunov was composed between 1868 and 1873 by Modest Mussorgsky (1839-1881) and as well as being considered his masterpiece, it is also the composer´s only completed opera. Several composers, notably Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Dmitri Shostakovich, created new editions of the opera.
