SHOSTAKOVICH DMITRI: (1906-1975) - SHOSTAKOVICH DMITRI: (1906-1975) Russian composer and pianist. Signed and inscribed 4to printed score for Six Pieces from the Second Ballet Suite (a collection of pieces derived the composer´s ballet scores, in particular The Bolt , 1931, and The Limpid Stream , 1935), comprising Waltz, Adagio, Polka, Sentimental Romance, Spring Waltz , and Finale (Galop) , the full score an arrangement for a small symphony orchestra by Levon Atovmyan, published by the State Music Publishing House, Moscow & Leningrad, 1951, and featuring green and black printed paper covers. Signed by Shostakovich in purple fountain pen ink to the head of the title page, with a warm inscription in Cyrillic to Levon Atovmyan, and further dated at Moscow, 30th May 1957, in the composer´s hand. Lacking the spine and the binding somewhat loose, light overall age wear, and with the lower right corner of the title page neatly clipped. About G Levon Tadevosovich Atovmyan (1901-1973) Armenian-Soviet musician, composer, arranger, teacher and publisher. Shostakovich's ballets faced censorship during his lifetime, which led to the creation of suites, such as the Second Ballet Suite, to make the music more accessible.
