[LOUIS XVI]: (1754-1793) - [LOUIS XVI]: (1754-1793) King of France 1774-92, the last King of France before the fall of the monarchy during the French Revolution. Executed by guillotine on the Place de la Revolution at the age of 38. A very good partially printed document, signed `Louis´, signed by secretary, one page, 4to, Versailles, 20th July 1784, to Sieur Vandergatest, in French. The document being a passport issued in favour of Sieur Vandergatest, allowing him to travel to London, and valid for three months. The document states to the heading ”De par le Roy - A tous les Gouverneurs et nos Lieutenants” (”From the King - To all the Governors and our Lieutenants”), the King orders to allow Sieur Vandergatest to travel through France without impediments and reach Calais where he is due to embark to London on 24th July 1784. Countersigned at the base by Count de Vergennes (1719-1787) French statesman and Diplomat. Count de Vergennes served as Foreign Minister from 1774-87 under King Louis XVI.
