KORNGOLD ERICH WOLFGANG: (1897-1957) - KORNGOLD ERICH WOLFGANG: (1897-1957) Austrian composer and conductor, noted for his film scores. Academy Award winner. A good A.M.Q.S., Erich Wolfgang Kongold , to the recto of an oblong 12mo card, Hollywood, 1952. In blue ink Korngold has penned a quotation of four bars which he identifies as being from The Dead City . Signed and dated by Korngold immediately beneath, also adding an inscription in his hand to the noted autograph collector Ashley T. Cole (and with Cole´s neat ink annotation to the upper left corner). VG The Dead City (´Die tote Stadt´) is an opera in three acts by Korngold, set to a libretto by Paul Schott, a collective pseudonym for the composer and his father, Julius Korngold. The work premiered in 1920.
