Niebuhr thanks Smith for their letter and adds that he has also received a formal invitation from Yale University which he would be glad to accept ´if it would be possible to postpone the lectures till the Fall rather than the Spring when I will be busy winding up my long years here ´ , further remarking ´I asked him if it would be possible to deliver the lectures in late afternoon rather than evening as my health does not permit the evening lectures´ and concluding by adding that he is looking forward to Smith´s book on Jonathan Edwards. About EX John Edwin Smith (1921-2009) American philosopher who served as President of the American Philosophical Society. Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) American revivalist preacher, philosopher and Congregationalist theologian, widely regarded as one of America's most important and original philosophical theologians.
