[SCHLIEMANN HEINRICH]: (1822-1890) SCHLIEMANN SOPHIE: (1852-1932) - [SCHLIEMANN HEINRICH]: (1822-1890) German archaeologist. SCHLIEMANN SOPHIE: (1852-1932) Greek second wife of Heinrich Schliemann from 1869, best known for posing for a photograph while draped in gold jewellery from the Treasure of Priam. a cache of gold and other artefacts discovered by Schliemann in May 1873. Autograph statement signed, Sophie Schliemann , one page, large 8vo, n.p., n.d. (January 1931), in German. The page was evidently originally part of an album presented to the biographer Emil Ludwig on the occasion of his 50th birthday and Schliemann´s charming greeting states (loosely translated) ´To the magician who brings old faded pictures to life, to the poet who is able to make mortals immortal, to the man who can ignite a war through his writings and who preaches the truth, my great admiration and friendship´ Very slightly ragged to the extreme edges, otherwise VG Emil Ludwig (1881-1948) German-Swiss author known for his study of major historical figures and biographies which included Schliemann: The Story of a Gold-seeker , published in 1931.
