CARTER HOWARD: (1874-1939) - CARTER HOWARD: (1874-1939) English archaeologist and Egyptologist who discovered the Tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922. Autograph Manuscript, unsigned, one page, 8vo, Prince´s Gate Court, London, n.d., in pencil, with several corrections. Carter has written two paragraphs of text relating to Gurna (i.e. Kurna, on the West Bank of the River Nile), in part, ´Gurna is but a small village, having scarcely above four thousand inhabitants, and covering but a small portion of the area occupied by the ancient necropolis......But though hundreds - nay, thousands - of tombs have been opened, what remains to satisfy the modern explorer/archaeologist? A few hundred chapels. All the rest have been covered in, rifled and destroyed, mostly by the modern inhabitants´ . At the conclusion Carter makes a reference to the source of the information, possibly from one of his own works. An interesting text relating to Ancient Egypt.
