LESSEPS FERDINAND DE: (1805-1894) - LESSEPS FERDINAND DE: (1805-1894) French diplomat and developer of the Suez Canal. A.L.S., ` Ferd. de Lesseps ´, three pages, 8vo, from the Institute, 5th October 1885, to his wife Hélène Autard, in French. Lesseps reports to his wife on his arrival to Paris with the children and on the starting of the school and other friends and family matters, stating in part ` Bien chère Hélène, Le voyage s´est très bien passé. The trip went very well. The children slept during the journey to Paris, and this morning they went back to school with enthusiasm and good humour... little Jacques saw me put my head out of the door, he made quite a face and a cry of despair that really moved me. The house is very clean and Maurice did his work very well, the courtyard I must say is charming and the location of the large trees, on one side only, is already prepared. Since lunch, which was excellent, I have been very busy at the office, the little car came to pick me up and took me to the institute... I sent a word to Charles that I will go to dinner at his house with the English administrators who came to Paris for the sessions...”) Few extremely small pinholes, otherwise G to VG
