ONASSIS ARISTOTLE: (1906-1975) Onassis on the ´ best and biggest opportunity´ of his entire career - ONASSIS ARISTOTLE: (1906-1975) Greek-Argentine business magnate, one of the world´s richest and most famous men during his lifetime. A fine A.L.S., A. S. Onassis , to the first and third sides of a small 8vo folding bifolium card with the blind embossed heading On board S. Y. ”Christina” , Monte Carlo, 21st January 1961, to ´My dear Mr. Gillespie´ . Onassis thanks his correspondent for having written to him, ´and especially for your encouraging words about the depressed conditions of the tankers´, further remarking ´I will never forget and I will always be deeply grateful to you for giving me the opportunity to fix the 106500 tonner. This was the best and biggest opportunity I was ever given in my whole career´ and expressing a hope that he will see Gillespie soon, ´How about coming to M. Carlo with your good lady as my guests for a little sunshine during February. You would give me great pleasure. Please do think it over and let me know any time at your convenience´ . Accompanied by the orginal typed envelope addressed to Gillespie at the Townhead of Glencairn, Dumfriesshire. Autographs of Onassis are, surprisingly, extremely rare in any form, and the present letter has particularly good content. VG
