CRIPPEN DR. H. H.: (1862-1910) Written less than a month before Crippen´´ s arrest warrant was issued - CRIPPEN DR. H. H.: (1862-1910) American-born wife murderer, the first criminal to be captured with the aid of wireless communication. A scarce T.L.S., H H Crippen , one page, 4to, Craven House, Kingsway, London, 20th June 1910, to Arthur Scott, on Crippen's personal printed stationery from The Aural Remedies Company . Crippen thanks his correspondent for writing to him so frankly about the circumstances of his case, and continues to share a testimonial he has recently received from another patient, who informed him that his remedies have entirely cured his deafness of 58 years. Crippen continues to offer Scott a special offer, which ' places within your reach the possibility of being speedily and permanently cured '. He offers to send his correspondent his treatment on trial, upon receipt of half the fee, explaining ' If , at the expiration of a sufficient time, say three weeks, you feel that you have derived no benefit you can return what is left of the Outfit [treatment] and need not pay me another penny. On the other hand, if you feel you have been benefited by the treatment, you can then remit the balance of the purchase price...' Together with an unusual red printed 12mo slip of paper headed Important stating, in part, ' Kindly note that Dr. Crippen left our employ on July 9th, and has now no connection whatsoever with the Aural Remedies Company... ' Letters by Crippen are rare, particularly those in which he discusses specific cases, as opposed to the letters of routine content which are usually encountered.
