HERZL THEODOR: (1860-1904) - HERZL THEODOR: (1860-1904) Austro-Hungarian Jewish journalist, playwright and writer who was the father of modern political Zionism. The personal printed small oblong 12mo Visiting Card of Herzl and his wife, unsigned, featuring their printed names ( ´Monsieur et Madame Théodore Herzl´ ) to the centre, with five lines of text in Theodor Herzl´s hand, in German, inviting Mr and Mrs. York-Steiner to join them for dinner the following day, Thursday evening, at 8.30pm, as their guests at the Restaurant Kuehner. Dated 21st February 1900 by Herzl to the upper right corner. Some very light, extremely minor age wear, VG Heinrich York-Steiner (1859-1934) was a prominent journalist and a very early supporter of Herzl in his efforts to establish modern Zionism. He was instrumental in organising the First Zionist Congress and drafting the Statute of the Zionist Organisation.
