NAPOLEON I: (1769-1821) - NAPOLEON I: (1769-1821) Emperor of France 1804-14, 1815. A good letter of very interesting content, L.S., ` Nap´, one page, 4to, Troyes, 6th February 1814, to the Duc of Feltre, in French. The present letter is written the month before the capitulation of Paris in March 1814 and less than two months before Napoleon landed on the island of Elba, whose sovereignty had been granted to him. Napoleon is very concerned and crossed because he has not received news from Marshal Suchet, the troops he was expecting at Lyon have not arrived and he anticipates the guiltiness of the Marshal if he did not comply with his orders, referring to him as ”this Marshal”, stating ` Monsieur le Duc de Feltre, je suis surpris que le Maréchal Duc d´Albufera n´ait pas fait partir les troupes que j´ai demandées pour Lyon; elles devraient déjà être arrivées; je n´en entends pas parler. Si ce Maréchal avait pris sur lui de ne pas exécuter les ordres, il serait bien coupable.´ (Translation: ” Monsieur Duke of Feltre, I am surprised that Marshal Duke of Albufera has not sent the troops I requested to Lyon; they should have arrived by now; I have not heard of them. If this Marshal had taken it upon himself not to carry out the orders, he would be very guilty.”) Further, the Emperor refers to weapon supplies, saying ` Je vous ai écrit hier pour les gardes nationales de Meaux, de Soissons et de Montreau, faites leur passer des armes, des gibernes, des cartouches en poste...´ (Translation: ” I wrote to you yesterday about the national guards of Meaux, Soissons and Montreau, send them weapons, cartridge pouches and cartridges...”) Accompanied by a small 12mo holograph receipt affixed to the bottom left corner.
