ROSSINI GIOACCHINO: (1792-1868) - ROSSINI GIOACCHINO: (1792-1868) Italian Composer. A prolific composer, known as 'The Italian Mozart', who until his retirement in 1829 had been the most popular opera composer in history. A very fine, large signed and inscribed sepia 11 x 13,5 photograph by Rossini, the oval image depicting the composer in a head and shoulders pose. Photograph by Numa Blanc. Signed and inscribed in dark fountain pen ink by Rossini to the lower photographer's mount, in Italian, ' Offerto al mio carissimo... G. Rossini ', also dated beneath, Paris, 28th March 1860 in his hand. A wonderful signed portrait. Some light, minor age wear to the photographer's mount, largely to the extreme upper and right edges.
