FLOTOW FRIEDRICH VON: (1812-1883) - FLOTOW FRIEDRICH VON: (1812-1883) German composer, remembered for his opera Martha (1847). A.L.S., Fr. von Flotow , one page, large 4to, Schwerin, 28th February 1858, to Baron von Gall, General Director of the Court Theatre in Stuttgart, in German. Flotow states that he had received Gall´s circular letter that morning, and hastens to reply ´that the Schwerin Court Theatre will in any case be represented either by me, if I have recovered from a nasty flu, or if not, by the technical director of my theatre, whom I will empower with the necessary authority´ , further remarking ´The points proposed for discussion are certainly of great importance for every theatre director, and I have no doubt that if the members of the association attend in large numbers, much good can be achieved` . In concluding the composer informs his correspondent ´Fiammina, according to the translation, Your Excellency, will be staged next Tuesday. I saw the play in Paris and was delighted with the excellent translation´ . With blank integral leaf (minor traces of former mounting to the four corners of the verso). VG Ferdinand Wilhelm Adam Freiherr von Gall (1807-1872) German nobleman and theatre director. Baron von Gall was an early advocate of organising German theatres into cooperative networks, which helped lead to the founding of the Deutscher Bühnenverein (German Stage Association), serving as its chairman from 1852–58. Fiammina was an opera-comique composed by Flotow during his time in Paris in the 1830s.
