Small overall minor creasing, otherwise G La Circassienne was originally an opéra comique by Daniel Auber with a libretto by Eugène Scribe, premiered in 1861. This Opera comique served as the basis for Franz von Suppé's highly successful operetta Fatinitza (1876) . Unlike Auber's original play, Suppé's version, Fatinitza, introduced the character of Wladimir, a Russian lieutenant who disguises himself as a woman—a cross-dressing role (trousers role). Fatinitza was a huge success, exceeding one hundred performances, which led to litigation from Scribe's widow over the use of the plot.
