VESTRIS GAÉTAN: (1729-1808) - VESTRIS GAÉTAN: (1729-1808) Italian-born French ballet dancer who made his debut at the opera in 1749. A rare A.L.S., Vestris , in the third person, one page, 8vo, n.p., n.d. (post 1792), to Monsieur de La Loyauté, in French. Vestris presents his compliments and continues ´A lui envoyé l´extrait de baptistaire de son epouse quoi qu´il soit en allemand. Monsieur de La Loyauté peut voir qu´elle est née le 4 8bre de l´année 1752´ (Translation: ´He sends him his wife's baptismal certificate, even though it was in German. Monsieur de La Loyauté can see that she was born on 4th October 1752´ ). With blank integral leaf. Some light age toning to the left edge, otherwise VG Anna Heinel - German ballerina who enjoyed a highly successful career in both Paris and London, and is believed to have invented the pirouette. Once a great rival of Vestris, she retired from the stage in 1782 and the two dancers married a decade later, in 1792. Many sources, including the Oxford University Press, cite the year of Heinel´s birth as 1753, contradicting the present letter. She died in 1808, the same year as her husband.
