Manet explains that he is away from Paris and has not yet been able to reply regarding a price of 1,400 francs, remarking ´Trop élevé je viens donc vous offrir 1200 fr de l´atelier six avenue Frochot convaincu que je suis dans les conditions particulières que vous exisgez de votre locataire´ (Translation: ´As this is too high, I am therefore offering you 1,200 francs for the studio at 6 Avenue Frochot, as I am convinced that this meets the specific conditions you require of your tenant´ ). At the foot of the letter Manet provides his address at 49 Rue de Saint-Pétersbourg (in Paris, the location of the Manet family apartment, where the artist lived from around 1866-78).
