MONET CLAUDE: (1840-1926) - MONET CLAUDE: (1840-1926) French Impressionist painter. A.L.S., Claude Monet , one page, 8vo, Giverny par Vernon, Eure, 5th May 1897, to a gentleman, in French. In his characteristic purple ink, Monet writes to arrange an appointment, ´Je viens vous prier de me faire savoir, par un mot au porteur, à quelle heure je pouvrai passer demain jeudi à votre etude, pour vous causer au sujet de l´acte dont je vous ai déjà entretenu´ (Translation: ´I would be grateful if you could let me know, by a note to be delivered by hand, at what time I might call at your office tomorrow, Thursday, to discuss the matter I have already mentioned to you´ ). A couple of very light, extremely minor creases, VG 1897 was a significant year in Monet´s career, and in early May he was deeply immersed at work on his Mornings on the Seine series. It was also in 1897 that Monet began the legendary transition toward painting Water Lilies, a project that he would continue to work on for the rest of his life.
