(10th February 1955), to Hermine Chastanet ( ´Allo Zib´ ), in French. Léger states that the Museum of Modern Art have been asking him for a book that isn´t too expensive, explaining ´Je vais m´occuper de faire réaliser un 250 fr avec 15 ou 20 repro [ductions] , Georges Braque, Picasso´ (Translation: ´ I’m going to arrange for a 250-franc edition to be produced, containing 15 or 20 reproductions by Georges Braque and Picasso´ ), and continuing to ask ´En attendant ce modeste évenement ne pourriez-vous pas faire déposer au bureau d´achat librairie de vente du dit musée des exemplaires des constructeur. Est-ce fait? Et aussi a mon ecole ou il passe beaucoup de monde´ (Translation: ´In the run-up to this modest event, could you please arrange for copies from the publisher to be deposited at the museum’s bookshop? Has this been done? And also at my school, where there’s a lot of footfall´ ). Léger also remarks that he is fed up with a situation, although adds ´Remarque qu´il y a des bons côtés aux choses. Je te recommande ”Le rangement sur le dos” l´art et la manière de faire pipi convenablement etc. Il en reste toujours quelque chose. Ça colle!´ (Translation: ´Mind you, there are bright sides to things. I recommend ‘Le rangement sur le dos’ – the art and manner of peeing properly, etc. There’s always something to be gained from it. It sticks!´ ) and in a postscript (signed with his initials FL ) writes ´Eu hier un téléphone de Dubuisson auquel nadia n´a rien pigé. Also, tell him to ring back – it’s about the monument (project)´ ). At the base of the page, beneath his initials, Léger has added a small ink drawing of a locomotive and two train carriages. Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Léger and signed ( ´F Leger´ ) by him in the return address panel. VG Hermine Chastanet (1919-2009) French artist who trained in the studio of Léger and later transitioned into publishing, serving as the Director General and a leading administrator for Éditions Falaize during its most active period in the early 1950s. Chastanet personally designed and laid out the typography and structure ( maquette ) for several of the publisher's notable books. Jean Dubuisson (1914-2011) French modernist architect who collaborated with Chastanet on projects involving Le Corbusier and Léger to synthesise modern architecture, painting, and visual arts. Nadia Khodasevich (1904-1982) Belarusian painter, the second wife of Léger from 1952.
