The Holy Roman Emperor sends the present letter to the Nuncio expecting a prompt response and decision of the Pope Clement VIII considering the news coming from Poland and Wallachia and explains that he has written with same purposes to the Princes and Kings involved. The Polish army having invaded Wallachia and launched new offensives, Rudolf awaits the Apostolic Nuncio's intervention, explaining that he had written to the King of Poland to prevent the war from spreading. He also explains that he has written to Prince Sigismund Báthory of Transylvania to protect peace in Hungary. Two weeks after the present letter was written, on 28th October 1895 Prince Sigismund Bathory defeated the Turcs and subdued Wallachia. With two countersignatures. Small overall age wear with edges slightly damaged. During his papacy he effected the reconciliation of King Henry IV of France to the Catholic faith and was instrumental in setting up an alliance of Christian nations to oppose the Ottoman Empire. Sigismund Bathory (1573-1613) Also known as Sigismond Prince of Transylvania. As a child he succeeded his father as Voivode or ruler of Transylvania. Sigismond abdicated in favour of Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II, and although he returned to his pillaged territories in 1601 with a Polish army, he could not strengthen his position and settled in Poland. In 1605, Holy Roman Emperor and Spanish King Philip III tried to persuade him to return and claim Transylvania, but he refused. He would later be accused of conspiracy and imprisoned by Rudolf II.
