CHARLES II: (1661-1700) - CHARLES II: (1661-1700) King of Spain 1665-1700. Known as ''The Bewitched''. Charles II was the last Habsburg ruler of the Spanish Empire. Shortly before dying in November 1700, Charles made Philip of Anjou his heir, a Bourbon, future King Philip V and grandson of Louis XIV of France. Charles II is also remembered for his physical disabilities. He died at the early age of 34. A rare L.S., ` Yo el Rey ´, five pages, 4to, Madrid, 21st July 1687, to the marquis and Captain General of the Kingdom of Naples and member of the council of the Viceroy, in old Spanish. The King refers to a memorandum received from the Marquis of Canamas, who claims being the son and heir of the Count Juan Vives de Cañamas, Viceroy of Sardinia. A lengthy handwritten document related to the Marquis of Canamas request. Signed at the base by the King´s secretary, Bustamante. With several countersignatures. With a Royal paper seal affixed alongside the King´s signature. Tied with red thread to the spine. Addressed to the last and sixth page. Overall creasing, otherwise G Juan Vives de Cañamás (1581-1625) He was a prominent Valencian diplomat and nobleman, appointed by King Philip IV as Viceroy of Sardinia in the 1620s. Before his time as viceroy, he had a distinguished career as Spain's ambassador to the Republic of Genoa.
