Napoleon states `All decrees and orders issued relating to the Corps of Observation of the Elba should be regularly sent to Prince of Eckmuhl. It is essential that, for the good achievement of the service, this Marshal has copies of them..´ Accompanied by the small 12mo holograph receipt neatly pinned to the lower left corner. An interesting letter illustrating Napoleon´s concerns regarding the corps which will initiate the Russian Campaign only five months later. Known as ''The Iron Marshal'' for his discipline and talent for war, and widely considered one of Napoleon´s best Commanders. Davout was entrusted by Napoleon with the task of organizing the ''Corps of Observation of the Elbe'', which would become the gigantic army with which Napoleon invaded Russia in 1812.
