Executed for high treason at the early age of 48. Charles was born into the House of Stuart as second son of King James VI of Scotland. With his execution the monarchy was abolished and the Commonwealth of England was established as a republic. Extremely rare A.N.S., `Charles R´, as King, Carisbrooke, 24th February 1648. The king states `I have examined thease acounts & fynde them just. Carisbrooke 24 of Feb. 1647/8´ The present document is signed by Charles I while he was imprisoned at Carisbrooke. Folded, with remnants of former seals at the base. Overall age wear and creasing, with slightly irregular edges. G £4000-6000 The present document is the last known signed by Charles I before his execution on January 30th 1649, and ever offered at auction.
