( 28,78g ) MONAST: WESTPH: OBSESSVM, coat of arms of Münster within a baroque frame and surmounted by a large jewel flanked by 16 60; all within the linear, pearled edge As one of the terms of the Peace of Westphalia, the city of Münster would be ruled by a Catholic prince-bishop. Not long after the treaty was signed, the citizens of Münster rebelled against their ruler, Bishop Christoph Bernhard von Galen. Its aim was to elevate Münster to the rank of a free imperial city, thus removing it from the influence of a local prince. In response, Bishop von Galen and his powerful army laid siege to the city, eventually putting down the insurrection and regaining control in March 1661. This klippe is an emergency issue coined during the siege.
