Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892) - Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892), lot of 2 shinbun nishiki-e woodblock prints apparently from the series ”Chronicles about the People of Today” published by Yamato Newspaper, 1880s, 35.5X23.5 cm, signed. Good condition (wear and slight tears to edges). Newspaper prints, also called shinbun nishiki-e were a rather special and short-lived new genre of Japanese woodblock prints during the 1870s and 1880s. They were made by renowned ukiyo-e artists and featured primarily spectacular crimes, gossip stories, disasters, and - something typical Japanese - stories of supernatural appearances of ghosts.
