Silver and Coconut Shell Etrog Box, Austro-Hungary - A fine silver and coconut shell Etrog box, Austro-Hungary, c. 1815. Carved with two deer flanking a medallion inscribed with the date in Hebrew (1814), the hinged lid carved with Hebrew inscription: 'And you shall take for yourselves on the first day the fruit of the tree Hadar, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick leaved trees' (Leviticus 23:40), surmounted by spiral knop, set on a circular domed base, inscribed underneath in Russian ”Dmitri Nikolaevich Durasov”. Height: 17 cm. Hallmarked. Cracks, the upper part is detached from the silver ring. Sold at Sotheby's October 11, 2001, New York, Judaica sale, lot 110.
