Portrait of Theodor Herzl – Engraving, Hermann Struck, Germany, 1903, Signed in the Plate - Hermann (Chaim Aharon] Struck (1876-1944) a German Jewish artists known for his etchings. He was also a Zionist activist and a central member of Ha'Mizrachi Movement. Struck met with Herzl in 1903 and was deeply impressed by his personality and Zionist belief. Subsequent to their meeting, Struck created a series of sketches of Herzl in his house in Vienna. On this basis, he made his famous engraving: Herzl's portrait. Struck described this portrait as follows: ”the nice facial features of the leader are furrowed, since his responsibility is unbearably heavy. His face also shows the deep signs of several bitter attempts. Only his eyes have deepened and received new character: the look of a prophet seeing the distant future”. Signature on the plate: Star of David with the initials CABD (Chaim Aharon ben David) Size: 34X44 cm. Condition: Very Good.
