The 1936 Arab Revolt in Palestine – Two rare books with many pictures - a. Bedam Va'Esh … The 1936-1937 Arab Revolt. Edited by Reuben Goldbertg. Jerusalem, 1937. The first chapter of the book: 'Their Words' (of the Arabs). This chapter includes citations from the Arabic press (from the years 1929 and 1936) with false reports and accusations that the Jews are murdering and abusing the Arabs. The second chapter: 'Their Deeds'. This chapter includes a list of the dozens of victims of the 1936 Arab Revolt and a list of damage to property. The following pages shortly review each of the victims, details of the murder, a picture of the victim and whether he had a wife and children. This chapter also includes rare, interesting pictures: ”The Sephardic Rabbis at the funeral of [Avraham Yisrael] Chazan”, ”The funeral of Dr. Feldberg in Haifa”, ”On the Mount of Olives”, ”Jewish refugees”, ”Mass Grave”, ”British policemen on alert in Tel Aviv” and additional pictures. The third chapter: 'Our answer: Immigration! Building! Redemption!' and the response of the Jewish leadership to the Revolt. At the end of the booklet there are additional rare pictures of the settlement of Israel, its development and industry and a whole chapter dedicated to Alexander Polansky, one of the victims. 72 pp. Condition: Very Good. b. Dam Kedoshim Be'Afar Ha'Kvish (The Blood of the Saints on the Road) Booklet A, about the first murder of the 1936 Arab Revolt. The title page contains a picture of a wounded Jew supported by a soldier. From the introduction: ”Thirty days to their death – for the soul of Avraham Yisrael Chazan, eulogy for Zvi Denenberg, the anonymous driver”, ”What does Yehoshua Nafchi, the only Jew who survived the murderous attack of 15.4.1936 recall” With pictures of the three. Two of the victims, Chazan and Denenberg, were attacked by an Arab gang on 15.4.1936 on a trip from Haifa to Tel Aviv. Chazan was killed immediately while Denenberg died from his wounds several days later. This attack signaled the start of the 1936 Arab Revolt in Palestine, which lasted for three years. Chazan was considered the first victim of the Revolt. Although it is written of the booklet that it is ”Booklet A”, the author did not publish additional booklets beside this one. The author: Alexander Zauber, a journalist and activist. One of the leaders of the Hungarian Jewry. Helped various underground organizations during the Mandate period. Was a member of ”Brit Ha'Biryonim' (The Strongmen Alliance). 16 pp. Condition: Very Good. Original hard cover, slightly loose.
