Document Regarding the Establishment of Nordia - With a Handwritten Dedication to Max Nordau's Daughter - 1948 - Copy of the document announcing the establishment of the cooperative village of Nordia, written in scribal handwriting. Photocopied on parchment, in tribute to the daughter of Max Nordau, whom the settlement is named after. The document is framed and covered with glass. According to the document, Moshav Nordia was established ”with the blood of the Israeli heroes” on the lands of the Jewish National Fund by a group of veterans, members of Beitar, who served in the Jewish Brigade during World War II. In the document the founders (among them, Dr. Reuben Ben Shem, one of the heads of Beitar and one of the fighters of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising) take the oath of Beitar (Ha'Neder), which was written by Ze'ev Jabotinsky: ”On day of service I am like copper / like iron in the hands of a blacksmith named Zion / plow me as you wish – sickle, mill wheel / or sword and dagger”. The document also states that the settlement ”Nordia” is named after Max Meir Nordau ”our distinguished leader”. Moshav Nordia was founded as a cooperative village in 1948 by members of the Beitar movement, soldiers of the Etzel, who served in the British army during World War II. The settlement was founded on the lands of the abandoned Arab village of Chirbat Beit Lid in the Sharon. 20x33 cm. Condition: Very Good.
