Semichat ”Yoreh Yoreh Yadin Yadin” Handwritten by Rabbi Yehoshua Katz Av Beit Din of Verpelet, One of the Outstanding Disciples of the ”Chatam Sofer” - 1846 / Added is a Letter Praising Rabbi Yehoshua Katz, Signed by the ”Da'at Sofer” - Extremely Rare! - A. Letter of Semicha of Rabbi Yehoshua Taeuber. At the beginning of the letter, Rabbi Yehoshua Katz praises Rabbi Yehoshua Taeuber, stating that he deserves to be a rabbi and teacher in any community in need of a rabbi and teacher. At the end of the letter: ”… here in Verpelet, Wednesday the 25th … Yehoshua Katz”. Greenish, folded leaf written on one page. 22 cm. Condition: Good. Slight tear due to folding. Stains. Wrinlkles. B. Large leaf praising Rabbi Yehoshua Katz by Rabbi Akiva Sofer Av Beit Din of Pressburg, for publishing his writings in a book titled ”Mahari Kats Chidushim al Sugiyot Ha'Shas” (Jerusalem, 1959). The letter is a recommendation in scribal script. At the end of the letter, the signature of Rabbi Akiva Sofer. The letter appears in the book ”Ha'Chatam Sofer Ve'Talmidav” (The Chatam Sofer and his Disciples), pp. 175. The ”Da'at Sofer” writes of Rabbi Yehoshua Katz in the aforementioned leaf: ”One of the most outstanding disciples of the Chatam Sofer from whose words we live since they lighten the world in their Torah and piousness is the genius, holy … rabbi, Rabbi Yehoshua Katz who was Av Beit Din of Verpelet…” Rabbi Yehoshua Katz (1793-1848) served as Av Beit Din of Verpelet since 1832. In 1847, he became Av Beit Din of Balassagyarmat. He corresponded with the ”Chatam Sofer” and was mentioned in the ”Chatam Sofer” Responsa several times. The ”Chatam Sofer” wrote of him: ”My disciple, the great, pious Talmid Chacham” and ”One of my dearest disciples…” Rabbi Akiva Sofer (1878-1960), the fourth in the dynasty of the Pressburg rabbis of the family of the ”Chatam Sofer”, the son of Rabbi Simcha Conem Sofer, author of ”Shever Sofer”. Served as the rabbis of Pressburg and head of its great yeshiva, like his father and grandfather before him. He immigrated to the Land of Israel and established impressive Torah institutions and was one of the prominent speakers of the leadership of the Haredi community. 32 cm. Condition: Good.
