Semichat ”Morenu” (”Our Teacher” Ordination) Handwritten by Rabbi Yonah Zvi Bernfeld the Disciple of the ”Ketav Sofer” and Av Beit Din of Debrecen to his Disciple Rabbi Asher Schwartz, the Disciple of the ”Ketav Sofer” - 1875 - Semichat ”Morenu” handwritten by Rabbi Yonah Zvi Bernfeld to his disciple Rabbi Asher Schwartz. The Semicha states that from now on ”for any religious matter, he shall be called Our Teacher (Morenu) Reb Asher ben Reb Shlomo Yosef”. The rhymed, poetic letter greatly praises Rabbi Asher Schwartz. The signature of Rabbi Yonah Zvi Bernfeld at the margins of the letter, with his personal wax stamp. Debrecen, 1875. Rabbi Yonah Zvi Bernfeld Av Beit Din of Debrecen (1834-1891) was the son of Rabbi Yosef Bernfeld (a disciple of the ”Chatam Sofer”). Was a disciple of Rabbi Avraham Shmuel Binyamin Sofer, the ”Ketav Sofer”. In his youth, he studied with the rabbis and Dayanim of Nitra, Rabbi Shlomo Deutsch and Rabbi Yechezkel Bennet. In 1848, he published the Derasha of his rabbi the ”Ketav Sofer” for Shabbat Ha'Gadol. He was meant to be son-in-law of the ”Chatam Sofer”; yet, unfortunately, the bride, Esther, died before their marriage. Since 1872, he was Av beit Din of Debrecen. Authored the book ”derashot Rabbi Yonah” two sections and ”Chidushei Rabbi Yonah Zvi”. Corresponded with the ”Ketav Sofer” and several of his responses were printed in the ”Ketav Sofer” Responsa. Rabbi Asher Abshil Schwartz, a disciple of the ”Ketva Sofer”, the son of Rabbi Yosef Schwartz of Debrecin. Studied with Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Weinberg Av Beit Din of Kleinwardein, Rabbi Meir Pearls Av Beit Din of Carley and Rabbi Simcha Bonem Sofer author of the ”Shevet Sofer”. Folded leaf, 21 cm. written on two pages. Purple ink. Condition: Good-Fair. Tears with no damage to text. Stains.
