Two Halachic Responses Handwritten and Signed by the Hassid Rabbi Avraham ben Rabbi Shmuel Meyuchas, Author of ”Sdeh Ha'Aretz” - Circa 1730 - Manuscript by Rabbi Avraham ben Rabbi Shmuel Meyuchas, Author of ”Sdeh Ha'Aretz”. Two halachic responses on two subjects: long response on the laws of tithes and a short response on the laws of interposition during a ritual immersion (Tvilah) on Sabbath eve. The two responses are handwritten, with additions and deletions, and hand-signed at their end. The second signature is in nice curly calligraphy. The two responses were printed in his well-known book ”Sdeh Ha'Aretz” third section (Livorno, 1798). The response on the laws of tithes was printed in the section of Yoreh De'ah Siman 24 and the second response was printed in the section of Orach Chaim Siman 17. There are several variations in the manuscript from the printed editions. In addition, there are printing errors in the printed versions, which can be detected after the reading of the manuscript. The Divine kabbalist Rabbi Avraham Meyuchas was one of the leading rabbis of Jerusalem. He was born in Jerusalem in circa 1700. He studied Torah with Rabbi Yisrael Meir Mizrachi, author of ”Pri Ha'Aretz” and Rabbi Azarya Ashkenazi. His brother, Rabbi Raphael Meyuchas, author of ”Pri Ha'Adamah” described him as a man most knowledgeable in Torah, Kabbala and Halacha, a Divine Kabbalist modest as Hillel. A holy man who did not miss one hour of studying at the Beit Midrash. Already in his lifetime, he was known as holy like an angel of God. Rabbi Meyuchas knew a life of great suffering. He was orphaned at the age of two and became blind at the age of forty. However, he wrote all his compositions before the age of thirty. That is, they were written until circa 1730. Thus, the responses before us should be dated to this year. His compositions: ”Sdeh Ha'Aretz” responsa three sections (Salonika-Livorno, 1784-1798), ”Diglei Ahava” - commentary on the book ”Derech Etz Chaim” and ”Or Zaru'ah” by the kabbalist Rabbi Poppers (three volumes. Jerusalem, 2003), ”Ha'Ma'or Ha'Katan” - commentary on the book ”Etz Chaim” and ”Si'ach Ha'Sadeh” - commentary and novellae on Sefer Ha'Kavanot. He died on the 29th of Kislev 5728 (19.12.1767). His sons: Rabbi Shmuel Yitzchak Meyuchas, Rabbi Yosef Ya'akov Meyuchas and Rabbi Moshe Binyamin Meyuchas were all prominent rabbis.
