Rare and Interesting Response Handwritten by Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld, regarding the Clothing of Girls - Jerusalem, 1927 - A letter containing a question by Rabbi Shlomo Sobel which was sent to Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld regarding short sleeves for women: whether they can be permitted to go out to the market wearing short sleeves and whether it depends on the custom of the place and how should one behave in the holy city of Jerusalem. 1927. Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld's handwritten response appears at the margins of the letter: ”Thank God, regarding women, it should be insisted that they avoid wearing short sleeves, regarding little girls, they should be educated to dress modestly, yet it is not necessary to insist on it. And with God's help our sons and daughters will be educated to Torah, Chuppah and good deeds … Yosef Chaim ZF” Rabbi Shlomo Sobel (1901-1969) a Talmid Chacham and Darshan in Jerusalem. Corresponded with the most prominent rabbis and especially with Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld and Rabbi Yosef Rozen (the Rogatchover). He published his correspondence with these two prominent rabbis in two books: ”Shalmat Yosef” (on the Rogatchover) and ”Shlomo Chaim” (with Rabbi Sonnenfeld, in which the response before us was published). He also authored the book ”Shalma Chadasha”, three sections. 20 cm. Condition: Very Good.
