Unique Response Handwritten by the ”Chazon Ish” on the Matter of Growing a Forelock - A letter sent by Rabbi Shlomo Sobel to Rabbi Avraham Yesha'ayahu Kerlitz, the ”Chazon Ish”, on Monday the 21st of Kislev 1943, with a question regarding a rumor he had heard about a person who had asked the ”Chazon Ish” about growing a forelock and whether it is forbidden and maybe the listener had been mistaken and in that case, there had been a medical reason etc. On the margins of the letter, the handwritten decisive response of the ”Chazon Ish”: ”It is a wonder that people pay attention to idle conversations and therefore, on many occasions, I am asked about deceptive things”. A response of three lines containing 15 words. Unusual letter! Rabbi Shlomo Sobel (1901-1969) was a Torah scholar and Darshan who corresponded with the most prominent rabbis, including Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld and Rabbi Yosef Rosen (the Rogatchover Gaon). His correspondence with these two geniuses was published in two of his books: ”Shalmat Yosef” (on the Rogatchover) and ”Shlomo Chaim” (on the correspondence with Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld).
