Printed Leaf with the Portrait of the Prophet of the State Binyamin Ze'ev Herzl on the Background of Jerusalem - Printed Close to His Death - A printed leaf (in shades of blue and white) depicting the portrait of the Prophet of the State Binyamin Ze'ev Herzl in his typical, well-known posture - leaning on the railing of the balcony in Basel. On the background, the city of Jerusalem (in the image of David's Citadel), Herzl's desire. Before Herzl's eyes, Jews can be seen immigrating to the Land of Israel. On the lower part of the leaf, the verse: ”Im Eshkachech Yerushalayim Tishkach Yemini” (if I forget thee Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning) is printed. This verse refers to what Herzl had said during the sixth Zionist Congress (1903). At the center of the Congress were stormy arguments about the ”Uganda Scheme” - which was presented to Herzl by the British government. Herzl understood the objection to the Scheme among the members of the Zionist Movement and finished his final speech at the Congress (which was also the last speech he ever gave since he died a year later) with the verse from Psalms which declares his love of the Land of Israel: ”Im Eshkachech Yerushalayim Tishkach Yemini”. On the upper part of the leaf it is printed: ”1860-1904” the years of Herzl's life. The leaf is decorated with Stars-of-David. Rare leaf! Bibliography unknown and has never appeared in auctions. 16x22.5 cm. Condition: Good. Thin paper. Tears on the sides and folding marks. Slits. Tiny letters at the lower part: ”ars”.
