Extremely Rare! A Knife from the Scout Oath Ceremony - A Well-Known Jewish Manufacturer - Poland, Circa 1920's-1930's - Knife with an original leather case received by the members of the ”Scouts” at the end of their oath ceremony. The knife's manufacturer is the well-known Jewish-Polish manufacturer Gerlach. The logo of the company is stamped on the knife's blade. The emblem of the Polish Scouts movement, its initials and slogan: ONC - ZHP (Ojczyzna Nauka Cnota - homeland, education, rights in Polish; Zwi?zek Harcerstwa Polskiego - the Polish Scouts movement). Condition: the knife and its case are very well preserved. The Polish Scouts Movement officially began its activities in 1910 in Lvov. It had many Jewish members. The movement's speedy development and its popularity continued until 1914; then they ceased due to the outbreak of World War I. After the German invasion of Poland in 1939, the ZHP was announced a ”criminal” movement by the Nazis, who started executing many scouts; however, the movement continued its activities in hiding. Scouts also actively participated in the battles, especially during the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. In 1949 the Polish Scouts movement was outlawed. A new movement with a similar name was founded by the Communist Government after Stalin's death in 1953.
