The commentary, which is written in German, is unique due to its research and interpretive discussions as well as its style. Rabbi Dr. Meir Marcus Lehman (1831-1890), the rabbi of Mainz and one of the greatest Ashkenazi rabbis a hundred and twenty years ago. He became famous for his religious compositions and for the war he waged against the Enlightenment and assimilation. In order to bring the wide public, and especially the youth, back to Judaism, he founded the orthodox newspaper 'Der Izraelite' which published articles and stories in German for Jewish youth.
