Passover Haggada 'Haggadat Mordechai', with 'Beit Yisrael' composition, Jerusalem 1942 - A special edition of the Haggada with the 'Haggadat Mordechai' commentary authored by Rabbi Mordechai Gimpel Yaffe (1820-1892), the rabbi of Yahud, of the members of the first Aliyah and one of the first members of the 'Chovevei Zion' movement. This edition includes also the composition 'Beit Yisrael' by Rabbi Yitzchak Yehoshua of Karelitz, the nephew of Rabbi Gimpel Yaffe. The composition includes commentary on the Haggada and many Midrashim. The publisher, Rabbi Shimon Halperin, the grandson of Rabbi Yitzchak Yehoshua, wrote: ”My relative, Rabbi Kook, always repeated it [the Beit Yisrael Haggada] and it was his wish that it be re-printed and he encouraged me to do so”. Thus he explains why the two commentaries are bound in one book: Haggadat Mordechai is based on Beit Yisrael. He adds: ”That is why I wanted to print it together with Beit Yisrael … and this was what Rabbi Kook advised me, because of the connection between the two books”. 82, 46 pp. Condition: Good. The cover is detached from the pages.
