Prayers for bringing the flag of the Jewish Battalions into the Hurva Synagogue, 1925 - Prayers for bringing the flag of the 40th regiment of the King's marksmen (the Jewish Battalions) to the great synagogue of 'Beit Ya'akov' in Jerusalem on 17.12.1925”. A program of the ceremony and prayers in honor of the event. On 17.12.1925 a special ceremony was held for depositing the flag of the first Jewish Battalion (the 40th regiment of the King's marksmen) at the 'Hurva' Synagogue in Jerusalem. The significance of raising the flag of a Jewish battalion in Israel was great. The flag was accompanied by a formal orchestra during its train ride from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The event was considered a national holiday so much so that the press announced that ”anyone who had not seen Knesset Israel yesterday in Jerusalem, had never felt the joy of redemption”. The Chief Rabbis, Rabbi Ya'akov Meir and Rabbu Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook participated in the ceremony and the cantor Yisrael Barzakai accompanied it. Rabbi Kook composed a special prayer for the event, which is included in the booklet before us. At the end of the ceremony, the English anthem was sung as well as the ”Tikvah”. A rare booklet! 4 pp. Condition: Fair. The cover is falling apart, tears without damage to the pages.
