Cantorial Concert with the cantor Zevulun Kwartin – Jerusalem 1935 - An announcement about a concert in honor of the 30th anniversary of 'Shirat Yisrael' choir at the Edison Hall on Wednesday 6.3.1935. The concert was given by Zevulun Kwartin and accompanied by a large choir, an oriental singer, a young cantor, a choir of children and a piano. The announcement includes the picture of the cantor. Zevulun Kwartin (1874-1952) was famous for his voice and unique sensitivity that were reflected in all his prayers, and especially in his most famous piece of cantorship ”Rabbi Yishmael purified himself” dealing with Rabbi Yishmael, one of the Ten Martyrs, before the execution of his and his holy Tanaic friends. The tune, the intensity, the sensitivity and his unique voice gave, and still give, a deep and correct meaning to this liturgical poem, which is at the center of the Yom Kippur prayers. Rare!
