The signature of Boris Schatz – 1910 - An official receipt of the workshop of Bezalel School of Art in Jerusalem. Sugned by its manager, Boris Schatz. 1910. Boris Schtaz (1867-1932) was born in Kovno. He studied sculpture and drawing in Warsaw and Paris. After one of his sculptures was displayed in an exhibition he was invited to Bulgaria and established there an academy for art. After meeting Hertzl, he became an enthusiastic Zionist. He founded the Bezalel School of Arts in Jerusalem. He organized exhibitions around the world of Bezalel artists. The subjects of his sculptures are taken from the Bible and other Jewish sources.
