A letter signed by Meir Dizengoff and David Yelin – 1930 - A letter from 9.9.1930 signed by Meir Dizengoff, the president of 'Bnei Brit' Association and David Yelin, the secretary of the Association. The letter informs the office of 'Bnei Brit' in Jerusalem about the decision of the office in Tel-Aviv to support the 'League of Nations Association' in Israel and asks the office in Jerusalem to add their support too. Bnei Brit Association was founded in 1843 in New-York by Romanian Jews in order to unite the Jewish nation and form a brifge to the Jewish society. The Association has offices around the world which deal with charity, preventing anti-Semitism and assistance to the Jewish nation. In Israel, an office was opened in Jerusalem in 1888 and in Tel-Aviv in 1890. The Association built in Israel the Bnei Brit Library, which served as the base for the National Library, the Forest of the Martyrs in the hills of Jerusalem and more. Meir Dizengoff (1861-1936). In his youth, he was a member of the 'Hovevei Zion' association and established a branch of the association in Chisinau. He immigrated to Israel in 1892. A year later, he left for Egypt and then returned to Odessa. All the while, he continued his activity in 'Hovevei Zion' and participated in the Zionist Congresses. In 1905, he again immigrated to Israel and lived in Jaffa. In 1911, five years after the foundation of the 'Achuzat Bayit' Association for building the first Hebrew city, Dizengoff was chosen as the head of the committee and served in this role until 1922. When Tel-Aviv received the status of a city, he was chosen to be its first mayor and served in this role almost consecutively until his death in 1933. David Yelin (1861-1936) was one of the leaders of the Jewish settlement in Israel. He was a teacher and researcher of the Hebrew language. He founded the 'Hebrew Language Committee' and the David Yelin College for Teachers. During the years 1920-1928, he headed the National Committee and in 1925 started teaching at the Hebrew University. In 1935 he became a professor. Condition: Very good-Good.
